To give special recognition to the situation of widows of all ages and across regions and cultures, the United Nations General Assembly declared 23 June 2011 as the first-ever International Widows’ Day.
Widows in North America are not faced with the social out casting that many widows face around the world. There are over 245 million widows globally and as we age this figure is increasing at an alarming rate. In some developing countries widows are left without the tools, resources and education to lift themselves out of poverty. Some are not allowed to own or inherit property and if they don't have the support of family they can end up on the streets.
Lets educate ourselves so that we can support widows both home and abroad that need our help and support.
