I know it’s hard to find your place in this world after you’ve lost a loved one. Grief makes us unbalanced and unsure of ourselves.
You need to embrace “You”, with all the attitudes, intensities and characteristics that make you a unique person. Remember that there is no right or wrong – there is just “You”. Therefore, don’t focus on “right”, but instead look for what works for you.
Whatever style works for you is acceptable, claim who you are, immerse yourself in it and give yourself permission to shake things up. Don’t deny or ignore mistakes made – after all if you are making changes, the chances are you haven’t made your last mistake yet.
You’re creating a new future, a fresh start and April is just the month to do it. Learn from the behaviors and attitudes of successful people. Watch, listen and observe for tools that you can incorporate into your personal life as a griever who is healing.
You’re not trying to be someone else, but rather letting their successful behavior help you grow to be all that you can be. It’s up to you to teach yourself what no one ever taught you about living a full and happy life after the loss of a loved one.
You must live with yourself every day. Do you like the person you see in the mirror? Are you allowing negative feelings, guilt or anger overtake what is right for you?
Make a list of the characteristics, qualities and achievements that give you pride in who you are. I have achieved…. - I treat others with ….. - My family and friends would say that I’m……
Keep going and acknowledge all the good traits you have. You are amazing! Take pride in what you have accomplished, your values and the family and friends that love you.
