The guidance and stories remain here as a free resource for widows.
For current ways to connect with Mary’s work, you can:
This month at "Chicks Night Out" we had a scavenger hunt after our potluck supper. We had a huge list of things within a ten mile range that we had to either bring back or take a picture of. We divided up into groups and took off in our cars as we had a forty-five minute time limit.
I haven't laughed so hard and I wish you could have seen all these ladies rushing around the neighbourhood collecting the items on the list. We had to get three sets of feet with nail polish and my group stopped the car and asked three teenage girls if we could take a picture of their feet - and they agreed!! I think they had as much fun as we did and one of the other groups got a their picture taken with a good looking fireman.
We didn't get all our items - we didn't find a 2002 loonie coin, a passport, a fireman/police officer or a parking ticket. But believe it or not one group got everything on the list but the 2002 loonie coin.
We all rushed back before we timed out and laughed as we told our stories and showed our pictures. We had some new widows visiting tonight and I'm sure they don't know what hit them but for one night they were able to laugh and learn to have some fun again.
That's what it is about - travelling our grief journey, healing and learning to live again. I hope that you find a "Chick's Night Out" group in your area or start one so that widows in your area can also share their stories and yet still have some fun.
