There are many different ways to remember our loved ones. Planting a tree is just one of many suggestions. This type of memorial can mean a lot to you and family members when dealing with a recent loss by watching it grow and remain strong for many years to come and it also gives back to the environment. Planting a tree memorial could involve all family members and become a gathering place or a private area to relax and remember lost ones.
If you are unsure of how to deal with a recent loss make it a community event, it is likely that other people are feeling the same way. Invite your friend and family to plant the tree with you. This will give you a chance to share memories and support each other through this difficult time.
A tree can be chosen for a variety of reasons; many types of trees have some sort of symbolism you value like a special meeting place. An apple tree is a symbol of love or healing. An oak tree is most often known for its strength. Cedar is thought to have cleansing and healing properties. Ginkgo is the classic memory tree. A tree could also be chosen just for its beauty.
Your local garden centres will often have a service to plant trees for their customers and they certainly will be able to advise or make suggestions on the choice of tree for the local conditions. Most often a tree is planted at a home in the back yard. Remember to place the tree far enough from the house to ensure optimum growing and viewing.
A plaque could be added at the base of the tree with a special phrase or joke engraved. This will let people know that the tree has special meaning. This would be is especially nice in a park setting for walk by traffic. Speak to your local organizations for more information on planting. A tree planted in a park will always be in a protected setting.
If you are looking for a great way to express your love for someone you lost, take a look at planting a memorial tree. It will become a long lasting memory of the person you love.
